When developing and testing our grids we found that most gaffers loved the 60 degree honeycomb grid and didn't request other versions. When this changes we will design the other versions too.
Short answer; yes.
We print the different parts of the grid and join them together both by design (the parts fit together) and by special thermoplastic screws. The type of material used and the way the grid is designed make it both very tough but also flexible when mounting and unmounting so stress on the product is put over the whole grid and not on 1 spot.
The grids are made out of multiple parts. They are joined together but never glued. This means that when a part is broken or damaged, it can easily be replaced.
Also when upgrades are available, owners could easily make the upgrade themselves with just a screwdriver.
Yes, we hope to get the request to make a Stormtrooper version that is all white. Maybe we already have that version in our shop.. maybe.
Yes, you can use your clamps to mount the tubes like you are used to.. but;
When mounting a clamp to an Astera tube and then mounting this combination to a tripod the flexibility in adjusting its angle is quite flimsy and the position is easily lost.
With our Dock you mount the combination of tube and grid to anything you like; a tripod, put it on the floor, use magnets to stick it on a metal surface or hang it with cables.
After mounting the adjustment of the lighting angle is precise and easily adjusted.
Both Titan and Helios docks will always have 2 feet that double as mounting points for cables.
In this module users can request M5, 1/4" or 3/8" metal inserts for extra mounting options.
The Astera Track Pin is always included and other features can be requested.
Our products are constantly improved by cinematographers, gaffers, photographers and everyone else using Ellar gear.
We aim to design products that solve practical problems on set and leave users with nothing to wish for.
